The MT is a fairly simple tenor with less "frills" than others. The tone and playability are where it's at with this model. And the new look is sharp! The construction and finish is very clean, with a transparent smooth satin, almost semi-gloss, natural finish. If you want a good look without it being shiny, this may be the right uke for you.

The ebony at the bridge, fingerboard, and headstock, and even the black buttons on the Grover tuners follow the two-toned theme with mahogany. This is Honduran solid quarter-sawn mahogany, a high-quality tonewood. The superior acoustic qualities are apparent. Many have gigged and recorded albums with this model. This latest batch, with ebony and being re-voiced, is the best Pono MT yet!

This has always been one of the most loved models in store and on the website. The Pono MT has a bone nut and saddle, Grover geared tuning keys, and a dual-action truss rod for adjusting the neck. But just looking at the "specs" won't really tell you how good an ukulele is. The great thing about this instrument is the sound and feel.

I'd had a cheap Ibanez soprano uke for a while and was looking to upgrade and could not be happier with this Pono. The tenor size provides a nice deep tone that records great and accompanies other acoustic instruments well. It really felt like the best deal in it's price range and the Uke store did a great job of setting it up before sending it off. I've had it for about a year now and it's holding up beautifully!

I am rating Hawaii Music Supply as much as the instrument, as this is my first Ukulele and I do not really have anything to compare it with. (I am a concertina player) This is a very simple, but beautiful instrument. It has good sound quality, holds its tuning well, and is easy to play. Hawaii Music Supply exceeded my expectations. Shipping was fast and simple. Their set up of the instrument was done well and it was ready to play right out of the box, with a quick tuning. Their free resources on line make it relatively easy to start teaching yourself how to play.

  3. Solid mid-range mahogany tenor at a great price even though foreign competitors have similar ukes at a lower price. 0 people found this helpful

My cousin bought this uke for me last summer for Christmas (in Australia). To this day, I still use this ukulele as my main uke. The quality of the wood and th finish is great although not quite as stellar as my cousin's Ko'olau and Kanile'a. Being mahogany, the sound is a bit darker which I like but I think I prefer the brighter sound of Koa a bit more. Being a satin finish, i was worried about the possibility of scratches and dings appearing all over the instrument but that hasn't been too much of a problem. Although Islander and Cordoba make similar ukulele's for a seemingly lower price, the quality is unmatched to the superiority of the Pono. I heard that there was a truss rod inside of the uke but I can't seem to find it. Downsides are that the neck seems a bit fat (although thats personal preference). The wider nut makes it easier for fingerpicking but a little more difficult or less enjoyable to strum. Nevertheless, the guys at Ko'olau have created a great entry-level instrument for all people at a great price. Thanks to HMS for their excellent setup and service.

  4. Great Sound. Need better strings 0 people found this helpful

I love the simplicity of this model ukulele because I can worry much less about its appearance than its sound, which is very warm by the way. I may not know better yet, but the g-string that came with my model sharpens when I play while it's tuned an octave below normal GCEA pitch.

This was my second ukulele, first tenor, and first +$100 uke. As is pretty uniformly the opinion on most forums and in the reviews on this site, it's a great value ukulele, which I too recommend, especially at the price it's offered for on HMS.
