The MT is a fairly simple tenor with less "frills" than others. The tone and playability are where it's at with this model. And the new look is sharp! The construction and finish is very clean, with a transparent smooth satin, almost semi-gloss, natural finish. If you want a good look without it being shiny, this may be the right uke for you.

The ebony at the bridge, fingerboard, and headstock, and even the black buttons on the Grover tuners follow the two-toned theme with mahogany. This is Honduran solid quarter-sawn mahogany, a high-quality tonewood. The superior acoustic qualities are apparent. Many have gigged and recorded albums with this model. This latest batch, with ebony and being re-voiced, is the best Pono MT yet!

This has always been one of the most loved models in store and on the website. The Pono MT has a bone nut and saddle, Grover geared tuning keys, and a dual-action truss rod for adjusting the neck. But just looking at the "specs" won't really tell you how good an ukulele is. The great thing about this instrument is the sound and feel.

I bought this beatiful instrument a couple of months ago. I asked to be strung with Low G setup, and left the string choice to the guys at HMS. They set it up with koolau's (don't know if Alohi's or Gold's) with 3rd and 4th wounded. What can I say... The Pono + HMS set up = A wooden Cannon. Sounds really deep, almost like a classic guitar. The other thing that surprised me was the flawless finish: no details at all, perfectly built instrument. Last but not least, I got the "plug in" combo, just to have the chance to play plugged. With some reverb from the amp, the Pono sounds just heavenly. I was tempted to sum up my review saying "best entry level solid wood tenor uke", but to call her "entry level" is just not fare. Lets say that for the buck, you can't get much more than the Pono MT.

I bought the Pono MT a couple of months ago and I'm astonished by the build quality of this little instrument. I asked the guys at HMS to set it up with Log G strings of their choice, and came with koolau wounded 3rd and 4th, wich makes the Pono a wooden cannon, deep sounding, guitar style ukulele. I was going to sum up my review by saying "best entry level solid wood ukulele" but its not fair to call this uke "entry level" since I think its quality and price can compare to more expensive ukes.

Bought a Pono MT as an extra 'ukulele to lend to friends that come over. The 'ukulele plays great. HMS setup is amazing. Intonation is great up the fret board. I've tried a various sting combination to find something I really like. I think I'm going to go back to the factory strings with the wound C. Bought a set of multicolored strings so may daughter could play Christmas carols on her winter break from college. Big mistake, I think the Pono is going off to college. Looks like my daughter outgrew her Kala soprano long neck. The pono neck is nice to play. It comes with a built in truss rod, which might come in handy with a college kid as the new owner.

After much searching and corresponding with Andrew, I chose the Pono Mahogany Tenor ukulele with built in pickup. I liked the all solid wood, the adjustable neck, and the built in pickup. I waited several months for the Pono to come in. It had the usual high quality set up and was strung with Koolau Golds in high G. It was well worth the weight. This little instrument always brings a smile to my face. It is smooth, has great sustain, and a shimmering sound. The neck is just perfect, and finished nicely. It feels good just to pick it up. The pickup is great, requiring little to no eq to produce a great sound that makes people stop in their tracks the first time they hear it. The Pono stays in tune well, feels good to play with the satin finish, and sounds great. I think it's a great value and a great instrument. Buying from Hawaii Music Supply was a no brainer. Between Andrew and Aaron, everything was seamless. My friend was so impressed he has bought several ukuleles from HMS and plans on visiting the store on a spring trip to Hawaii in 2013. Don't hesitate to buy a Pono from HMS. You'll be glad you did.

I bought the MT after speaking with Music Guy Mike about what my tastes were and roily how much I wanted to spend. After listening (and yes, they really do Listen to you at HMS), he hooked me up with a low G set-up for my new Pono MT. First, the instrument is truly substantial, it is not flimsy, comfortable to hold, beautiful satin patina, an easy to play neck, flawless construction and deep, full voice and tone. If you want to step up your game, if you want a truly great all-solid instrument at a fair and very reasonable price get the Pono MT. It's price range is not an unreasonable stretch for a beginner and it gets you off on the right foot from the very start. For more experienced players, the MT is a workhorse that doesn't disappoint. I absolutely love playing the MT.
