Acacia is part of the same family of trees as Hawaiian Koa, and it comes from a very similar species found throughout Asia. This instrument was built on one of the Indonesian Islands, with hands-on guidance and quality control from the Ko'olau Ukulele Company. The finest instrument makers construct these instruments to Ko'olau specs and design. This satin finish is very clean. The woods selected for this model are beautiful and instrument grade, as well as cut and dried properly.
A key feature, in all of the Pono tenors and baritones, is the dual-action adjustable truss rod. The truss rod stabilizes and adjusts the lengthwise forward curvature, also called relief, of the neck. It can be easily adjusted from inside the soundhole using the included allen wrench. Over time and with humidity changes this is a very useful option to have.

I listened to several of the YouTube videos and fell in love with the sound of the tenor. After several conversations with the awesome staff, I took the leap and purchased the Pono. Have never regretted the choice. The sound quality is excellent and so sweet. I much prefer to play the tenor. The body is beautiful; the grain of the wood is so rich, so much better when you have it in person. The photos don't do the ukulele justice. You can't go wrong with this one!

The service and advise is outstanding and I truly enjoy watching the sample videos. The only problem is- I don't sound like that and I know it is not the Ukulele's fault.

Good value and a keeper 0 people found this helpfulI have tried this in the store and just like my Pono Mango Tenor the setup is just right. This is a good uke with mellower tone but good projection. I am getting the acacia concert soon! Pono is top of the line stuff!

Good solid uke 0 people found this helpfulI purchased the Pono AT back in May 2012. I really like the qualityof the build. I cannot find one flaw in construction or the finish. The acacia originally looked kind of plain with the satin finish but recently has started to look better I think that the darker streaks have become darker. (or maybe I am learning to play it better so it is looking prettier) You need to be careful as the finish is pretty thin and the uke gets dinged pretty easily. The sound is clear, the intonation is good, and the strumming sound has improved over these 7 months and I expect the overall sound to keep getting better and better. I changed the original strings several times and settled on Ko'olau Alohi's. Overall I think that this is a quality instrument that I will be playing for a long time.
