The AT has been a hit for the last decade, but this latest version looks and sounds better than ever! It now has an ebony bridge, fingerboard, and faceplate. The sound is warm and full with wonderful projection.

Acacia is part of the same family of trees as Hawaiian Koa, and it comes from a very similar species found throughout Asia. This instrument was built on one of the Indonesian Islands, with hands-on guidance and quality control from the Ko'olau Ukulele Company. The finest instrument makers construct these instruments to Ko'olau specs and design. This satin finish is very clean. The woods selected for this model are beautiful and instrument grade, as well as cut and dried properly.

A key feature, in all of the Pono tenors and baritones, is the dual-action adjustable truss rod. The truss rod stabilizes and adjusts the lengthwise forward curvature, also called relief, of the neck. It can be easily adjusted from inside the soundhole using the included allen wrench. Over time and with humidity changes this is a very useful option to have.

After talking with Arron i decided to go with the Pono AT. I have NO regrets. The instrument is beautiful, holds it's tuning well and has a subtlety of tone and expression to it i have never experienced previously. Thanks for the excellent advice and fabulous setup. SOMEDAY i hope to buy a fancier model, but this wonderful uke is a real joy to play. I'm in no hurry to upgrade.

I just want to thank everyone at this site for recommending and getting this beautiful and great sounding uke to me. The set up time is well worth the wait. And mine is even more beautiful than the one pictured. I can't put it Down! Do not buy a ukulele from anyone but these guys.

Really wonderful instrument. My first ukulele but I have been playing guitar for over twenty years. Anybody that's purchased a high end guitar knows that any single model can vary depending on component specifics and natural variation. Also, it makes a big difference who you purchase it from. I had intended on purchasing a "real" uke locally after buying my toddler a Makala Waterman and discovering how fun it was to screw around with. My local guitar shop is very well regarded for their set ups and is quite often used by professionals for their guitar work and customizations. The owner can quickly get back logged and a servicing can take a couple months for non-professionals that don't rely on their guitars to make their living. Unfortunately their selection was pretty lacking and when I asked them what sort of care and set up their ukes got the response wasn't really to my liking. I was given an honest answer and told they pretty much go out the way they come in. I had been doing some research and came across this site. Like most people I suspect, I was really impressed by the passion that has been put into presenting their love for these instruments. I'm a pretty optimistic person and figured to much work goes into this site with all the videos and reviews for them to be trying to fool anyone and pulled the trigger on what I hoped would be a good representation of what an honest low frills traditional uke should be. As someone who really values fret work and playability, I don't believe I could have made a better choice. I might be convinced I should have bought a different uke but I doubt I could be convinced I could have purchased from a better retailer. The set up, just as others have reported, is phenomenal. The uke itself is simple looking and sounds complex. I'm really shocked at the tone this thing gives off. I had it set up with a low G and can't believe the resonance this instrument is capable of. You really feel it. It's so thick you can almost bite it. Can't think of anything else at the moment to add except to say that if your on the fence stop waiting, your wasting time. Instead of looking you could be playing one of these awesome instruments!

First off, it is really cool to be able to call and talk to Aaron-or Corey personally. Its like calling Steve Vai, or Eric Johnson-and becoming friends with your heroes! Now to this ukulele-i have a kamaka tenor that is my baby-and i got this as a beater-but beater it shall not be! it's every bit as great with a warm woody sound-i will be recording with it soon and can't wait to put it under the sound microscope.I have sent 3 of my students to HMS-for ukes and all have been stellar including this one. I also ordered a cheaper case-and they upgraded it with out charge. No one does business better than these guys. I am also a fireman for the city of Waco Texas-but when i retire-i want to work at HMS! you guy's are the best! God bless, Shane Spann

The Pono AT is a great ukulele at a great price. It is louder and fuller than any of our other ukuleles. It has great sustain and stands in tune really well. Intonation is spot on. At this price range, this might be one of the best choices. We strongly recommend not settling for a cheaper ukulele: Pono is perfect and will certainly bring you more joy than saving a few bucks on a less expensive one.
