Acacia is part of the same family of trees as Hawaiian Koa, and it comes from a very similar species found throughout Asia. This instrument was built on one of the Indonesian Islands, with hands-on guidance and quality control from the Ko'olau Ukulele Company. The finest instrument makers construct these instruments to Ko'olau specs and design. This satin finish is very clean. The woods selected for this model are beautiful and instrument grade, as well as cut and dried properly.
A key feature, in all of the Pono tenors and baritones, is the dual-action adjustable truss rod. The truss rod stabilizes and adjusts the lengthwise forward curvature, also called relief, of the neck. It can be easily adjusted from inside the soundhole using the included allen wrench. Over time and with humidity changes this is a very useful option to have.

After searching local shops in California, I stumbled across Aaron's review on this instrument. Hands down, this uke has been everything that I was looking for: great quality, solid, beautiful sound and a reasonable price. The only thing I would adjust on this ukulele would be a quick upgrade to the tuners. They ARE efficient, but this is just a personal preference. This is my first solid ukulele and I must say, well worth the investment. I also want to mention the customer service: I placed the order prior to leaving the country with a special request, and sure enough, my expectations were exceeded. I will be sure to order all future ukuleles from Hawai'i Music Supply. Thank you.

Amazing 0 people found this helpfulI got this uke a few months ago. I needed something to perform with, and this works perfectly. The Pono passive pickup is very impressive. It sounds way better than some active pickups. The intonation on this instrument is perfect. The wood is very nice looking, and is sounds beautiful. The only problem I had with this instrument was the finish. It takes a bit of getting used to. It is a good finish, but at first it felt a little weird.
