This Pono MSD is an all solid mahogany soprano with a gloss finish. It has a very full, "warm" tone and has been one of our most popular sopranos in the store for over a decade.
One thing to note is that these mahogany series Pono's are more expensive than the Acacia series ones. With most companies doing just the opposite, charging more for acacia, I asked Ko'olau why they did this. It's simple, "This is a very high quality Quarter Sawn Mahogany wood that costs us more than the Acacia wood, and many people prefer the tone of Mahogany over any other wood." This MSD model is one of the best sopranos on the market. Come down to the store in Haleiwa or buy one from the site and experience this super fun soprano for yourself!

Mail ordering instruments has never sat well with me but the vast number of videos on the site helped comparison shop. Wow. What a surprise. These guys are great. The instrument is perfect. I can't tell it's a second. It was shipped quickly, set up perfectly and now I play this uke every day. I've been so impressed with the crew here, I've recommended them twice to friends, and both times resulted in another uke sale. The instrument itself is fantastic value for money. Even at full price it wouldn't be a bad deal but at this price it's a steel. The action is great, the tone is balanced. It has surprising although not amazing depth. It's also very understated and pretty. I take it everywhere with me and at this price it's no heartbreaker if something happens to it. Don't delay, but one today ;-)

No Better Deal on a Uke Anywhere 0 people found this helpfulI've been a Pono fan for a while. My first ukulele was a Pono Deluxe Tenor. I ordered online and was blown away by it's wonderful sound/tone. This soprano ukulele is no exception either. It has become my 'go to ukulele'. The mahogany has a wonderful mellow sound. And don't let the 'blem' dissuade you. I wasn't able to find any on mine. It's a beautiful ukulele. The mat finish looks much better in person than the online pictures show. My only aesthetic complaint is that the rosette looks like a decal. It would be much better as an inlay or nothing at all. But that's my taste. Overall an excellent value. In my experience Pono's are already a very good uke at a great price. These 'blem' sales make them the best deal anywhere. HMS also did a great job with the setup. It arrived with a nice low action all the way up the neck and no buzzing to speak of - Perfect!
