This Pono MSD is an all solid mahogany soprano with a gloss finish. It has a very full, "warm" tone and has been one of our most popular sopranos in the store for over a decade.
One thing to note is that these mahogany series Pono's are more expensive than the Acacia series ones. With most companies doing just the opposite, charging more for acacia, I asked Ko'olau why they did this. It's simple, "This is a very high quality Quarter Sawn Mahogany wood that costs us more than the Acacia wood, and many people prefer the tone of Mahogany over any other wood." This MSD model is one of the best sopranos on the market. Come down to the store in Haleiwa or buy one from the site and experience this super fun soprano for yourself!

Excellent Value 0 people found this helpfulThe Pono soprano is an excellent ukulele. It has a nice sustain, with excellent dynamics, playing well both softly and loudly. I own 5 ukes, including 3 solid wood, and the Pono is a clear second favorite, after the KoAlana concert. The finish is plain, but warm and attractive at the same time; the build quality is excellent. The only minor quibble I have is that the friction tuners need more adjusting than I'd like. This would make an excellent uke for someone moving up to a solid wood soprano, especially for the price.

A Great Value 0 people found this helpfulThis was my first mahogany ukulele, and I was surprised to find how much I love it! I always preferred the sound of koa, but this has such a sweet voice. The setup is perfect and helps make it an absolute joy to play. Even though it's a second, the fit and finish is absolutely beautiful - leaps above many other production ukuleles I've received that aren't marked as seconds. The blem is so small, it took me a long time to find it. It's definitely one of the best values in this price range.

It is really an amazing find, especially so at this price. It has a really sweet voice, is super easy to play, and I can bring it anywhere. It's the one I play in the car when I am waiting people, and the one I play at home when I'm working out something new. It is one of the most played ukuleles at my house, by everyone here. And, of course, it is set up beautifully thanks to Hawaii Music Supply
