Pono ATD - Acacia Tenor Deluxe

Quarter Sawn Solid Acacia Wood -Gloss Finish

Select your instrument from the serial number dropdown above.

This model from Pono gives us quality and musicality never seen in this price range. The ATD is gorgeous in every way. Features include rich tone, great sustain, perfect feel, and beautiful all solid Acacia wood!

Kalei gives us a short review and sample as well with the Ko'olau Aho Smoothwound Low G set.

The ATD is dynamic. It will work with any style of music, any popular set of string. Perfect with a low G, showing off a robust lower range, or with a high G, still giving us a surprising depth. This all solid wood tenor ukulele has it all! A refined classic style, glossy exotic woods, and a beautiful voice. This Pono is an excellent value on a professional quality tenor ukulele. It has less flash than some of the other models, but the wood is gorgeous and the tone is very warm and sweet, and the construction is meticulous.

Acacia is a family of trees that Hawaiian Koa belongs to. This is not Hawaiian Koa but comes from a very similar species. Ko'olau is exacting in their woods being quarter sawn and dried properly. This is an essential factor in the precision you experience with the Pono ATD.

This Gloss finish really sets this model off. It's wonderful to just look at. But the key to this model is a sweet balanced tone with wonderful intonation and fantastic sustain. With think you'll love it.

This is the first Uke I got from HMS. And this is just as good as I imagine! It sounds very balanced, warm, round and sweet. I just like the gloss finish which looks durable but just thin enough to let the wood to vibrate. VEry nice work indeed. Also, I think there was something about the setting, I have played on PONOs at other shops, but the feeling was just different. The setting by HMS seems just right which playing on is just easy and comfortable. Thanks HMS and I am really looking forward to make my next order very soon. Thanks!!

This is a piece of art. The consistent warm tone resonates from this Pono and the wood is just magnificent. This is definitely a quality uke worth considering in this price range.

Wow, what an excellent ukulele. I was debating between the AT and the ATD (gloss finish, ebony fingerboard and bridge) and settled on the ATD. At first glance, the instrument is absolutely stunning! The grain pattern is beautiful and the coloring is actually a lot less red (I think they photos on this site aren't properly color corrected). If you want to see better pics, go to ukuleleunderground.com/forums and search for pono ATD. I've posted several pics under my alias MikeR. On closer inspection, I don't see any cosmetic flaws. The only thing I noticed is that when I took off the wound C string to replace it with a non-wound it left a small indentation in the bridge. But I believe these instruments come with wound C strings. The tuners feel nice and I like the smaller tuning buttons. All but the A string tuners on mine feel well lubricated and easy to turn; but even the A string feels good, just takes a little more pressure. I was surprised by how quickly the strings settled in and stayed in tune (two days of playing and I can tune them and forget 'em) The intonation is excellent almost all the way up the fretboard and the tone is very mellow. I will probably change strings in a month or two to the Ko'olau Alohi's to see if I can balance out the mellowness a little bit. The neck is a little thicker than some others i've played, but maybe that's due to the truss rod inside (one of the reasons I liked this uke). I've found the thicker neck makes barre chords easier for me. It feels really comfortable. For 469 dollars, I couldn't be happier. I feel like I am playing something much nicer than that. I also had HMS install a MiSi pickup and upgraded to the hardshell case. This is an investment I think you'll want to protect!
