This all solid tenor is a great place to start your musical endeavor with the ukulele, a great step up from a laminate instrument, or a great backup for those of you with more expensive tenors. It has a very solid construction, but is still relatively light in weight with an excellent balance.
The routing for bindings and purflings is very precise, beating out the competition in this price range with meticulous quality, and now they are making it with a slotted headstock at the same price it was for years with a regular headstock. What a great value! Take a listen-
Voiced to be articulate and still full, this tenor ukulele will give you everything you need. After it goes through our custom setup this model is definitely the model to beat in the under $300 range. Something about an all solid Mahogany tenor is hard to beat. When done right, like the SMHT, it gives a warm full mid-range tone that will have you grabbing your uke and loving the sound! If you just have a starter ukulele step up to an all solid wood one like this and you will truly hear a big difference! Couple that with the setup work we put into it and you will love the Sound and the Feel!!
We are not a marketing-focused company. We spend much more time behind a bench making ukes like this one play and feel great. We set up each instrument to ensure you get the absolute best for your money! This includes Saddle and Nut heights, Fretwork (usually planing or "dressing"), intonation checks, and a thorough inspection for a cosmetic flaw. This is crucial for this middle price range where you can really get close to a high-end tenor feel from our work. And always, we are dedicated to giving you honest and expert service and advice!

Great looking uke with excellent sound 1 people found this helpfulThe Kala SMHT solid mahogany was my first ukulele and I've had it for about a year now. I had narrowed my choices down to either the Kala Solid Mahogany or the Solid Acacia Tenor. The folks at HMS were very helpful in responding to my questions and offering their personal opinions regarding the two ukes. I haven't been disapointed in my choice. The ukulele sounded great when I first got it and it just seems to keep getting better with the passage of time. It has a simple but elegant look to it with the solid mahogany body, the simple rossette around the sound hole and the Rosewood fingerboard and bridge.

Sounds great but doesn't look like a solid wood instrument 0 people found this helpfulI love this uke. I put it up against a Collings tenor and the notes are louder, clearer, and deeper. Maybe I got a special one. However, the wood looks like plastic to me. It doesn't look as good as it sounds. Also, after playing for a while the upper bout where my hand lands after strumming looks like its building up oil as there's a shiny spot there. I tried wiping it down after playing but it may be me rubbing the satin finish to a gloss. If you're moving up to an all-solid instrument, this is a great option.

Perfect first upgrade! 1 people found this helpfulI have been playing for three months. Correction, learning for three months. I started with a pineapple soprano purchase elsewhere and learned a few things. I started my search having decided I wanted a tenor. I looked at a zillion different sites and ukes. I was leery about buying this online. Reviews from many locations raved about the set up and customer service at the Ukulele Site so I had confidence to move forward. The demonstrations you ate able to view are priceless. After narrowing to three I called directly and was given amazing pressure free advice. They really want you to enjoy your purchasing experience, but even more, the want you to learn and love to play. My uke is great, will buy my next from here as well.

Excellent value 1 people found this helpfulGot this ukulele so that I could try a low g string. I have found it to be very well made and sweet sounding. Seems to focus on the low-mid tones. Has a classic look that is not too flashy.

Great Uke For The Money 0 people found this helpfulYou'll be hard pressed to find a better uke for the money. This one projects well and it's loud! Real nice tone and it's easy to play, too! I love playing rhythm blues on this uke while my brother plays harmonica.
