  1. Best strings for vintage mainland ukes 0 people found this helpful

I like to punchy dry tone of this strings...I mounted a set on my "Serenader" of the '40-'50 and they contribute to give a tipical "Martin-like" tone. I ilke also the fact they have a narrower diameter than the Aquilas. The only think I don't like is the sleek surface, sometimes if my fingers are a bit wet they literally "stuck" on the string during the slides. Anyway I recommend this strings for high quality Hawaian ukes and expecially for vintage ones.

Really, these have been regarded as the best fluorocarbon strings for a long while now, but with a seeming glut of new strings entering the uke market, it's time to re-assert just why these are of the highest quality. I simply have not heard an ukulele whose sound has not improved once being fitted with them. They offer wonderful note distinction; a sweet, even and smooth tone across all strings and far better sustain than what you will get with aquilas or any nylon string set. In addition, they feel great to play. Much softer on the fingertips. These are high quality strings that that give an instrument a crisp bell-like tone that irons out the harshness and abrasiveness of nylons, yet maintaining enough dynamic to ensure your uke still sounds rich and alive. They aren't cheap but what you lose in dollars you gain with a better sounding ukulele. Best fluorocarbons on the market. Highly recommended.

I try different strings for my ukes...these are perfect for my koa concert, in fact they gave me a different uke! She really sings now. Each note rings with extra sustain, strumming really cuts without being harsh. Love my Worths!

Replaced Aquila's on a Kala Flame Maple Concert uke and it definitely sounds better with the Worth's vs. the Aquila's. Well "worth" the money.

Starting out on laminate ukuleles I found the tone of the Aquilas a bit bright for my liking so experimented with different string brands until I settled on the Worth Clears. I prefer the thinner profile and find they give a more reliable intonation up the neck. The more mellow tone suits my ear and my style of playing. I'd recommend you give them a try.
