At first is really did not like to feel of the neck and the tone really did not speak to me like I thought it would. however after about month of just killing this thing and really playing it hard (played the hell out of it) I am completely amazed with the tone its almost like she just needed to be played now compared to just about every ukulele I play nothing can beat the volume and tone!

Great tone, wonderful harmonics and sustain. Highly dynamic - rivals much more expensive instruments for its playability. Put a blindfold on, play it next to something 10x the cost, then be surprised when you find out what you played. My only downside: Finish is finicky. It will be difficult not to dink the finish just by looking at it.

Love this uke! Sound is warm, rounded, vibrant & out there w/ the Southcoast strings. The set-up is right. The construction & details are nicely done. I've many ukes costing much more than this, but this one is preferred over several of them. It is a great value for a solid wood ukulele. To me, tone & set-up is everything and this ukulele has it all! It is a wonderful tribute to Michael Aratani.

This ukulele is a bit on the pricey side, but man is it worth it. Looks: The pictures on the site don't do it justice. This is a beautiful ukulele. I love how the rosewood back contrasts with the spruce top. I also much prefer the satin finish this has as opposed to the glossy finish my other uke has. Kala has really paid attention to details on this uke. The checkered bindings, custom fret markers and picture of MGM just make this ukulele one of a kind. On top of all that, this has a slotted head stock with Grover Geared Tuners. Sound: As most spruce tops do, this uke sings! It cuts through the air and delivers a loud, but still warm, sound. It feels like the setup guys really took their time with my uke and it sounds amazing. The best thing about this uke is that it was made to honor MGM which I bought my first and only ukulele from back in the day on Ebay. He was very helpful and patient with me back then as I was struggling to choose a ukulele and I'm proud to have both of my ukuleles because of him. Buy this, you won't regret it.

  5. Gorgeous Ukulele and decent sounds 1 people found this helpful

There are two reasons why I decided to buy this ukulele. MGM model has a great story behind and material combination used in this model interest me as well. Spruce and Indian Rose wood have been standard for classical guitars for very long time. I was very curious about how ukulele made from these materials sounds. The final result is quite much as I expected, the spruce top has the most dominant part of the sound quality. Regardless other materials, spruce top instruments always sounds like spruce and there are no other way to go around. For comparison I have Kala KA-FMTG which also has solid spruce top but sides and back are laminated maple. Differences are marginal and I need to say its impossible for me to recognize which one is MGM in blind test. It might take while when until solid sides and back to open up, so maybe results will change in one year. Craftsmanship is Awesome! MGM model is gorgeous and it feels really good on hands. Satin finish is really something I prefer. Wood grains on wood are perfect straight. Neck is made from perfect quarter sawn wood. The set-up made by HMS feels good for me fingers.
