Hal Leonard Ukulele Method Book 1

Product Review (submitted on December 23, 2012):

I got this book when I first started learning the ukulele. It's fairly short and doesn't take too long to go through. A good portion of the book is basic music theory (i.e. time signatures, how to read music notation, scales) so if you already know how to read music, that part probably won't be very useful. I already knew that stuff so I only briefly went over it.

In terms of ukulele specific information, it's well written and probably a very good starting point for the absolute beginner. However, there's not really anything in there that you can't find for free on the internet. I have a few other ukulele books, and while I revisit them from time to time to brush up on certain skills, find new tabs, etc, I don't really come back to this book.

Basically, if you're looking for a complete, from-the-ground-up beginner book that teaches basic music theory along with the ukulele, this is a good book. If you already know how to read music, you'll probably be fine with just the internet. Either way though, it's not expensive, so it's not a bad buy.
