All Solid Acacia from Kala!

This beautiful, all-solid Striped Acacia will turn heads and please ears. Decorative features include a slotted headstock with vintage styled gear tuners, custom abalone fret marker inlays, maple binding and vintage-style herringbone purfling. Acacia is also called Mimosa or Shower Tree; these tropical trees are cousins of the Hawaiian Koa Tree. They have gorgeous striped patterns of light and dark brown and have a deep colorful tone that match their beauty.

For the last decade this model has been one of our best selling models. The binding is now maple wood and the fretboard and bridge are walnut. They lightened the weight of this instrument and increased the resonance and the new SA-T is certainly one of the best options for a high quality, modestly priced solid wood tenor.

Take a listen to this sweet sound sample from Corey.

I bought this uke 2 years ago and it quickly became my main player. The fit and finish are fantastic. Mine actually has a very fine curl to the grain which gives it a beautiful velvety look when held to the light. I originally bought this uke because I have a Pono Mango tenor which I have strung Low G and wanted a tenor tuned to normal reentrant tuning. I seached for months for a quality tenor that didn't have normal geared tuners because I prefer the traditional look of a uke with friction tuners. When Kala released this uke I knew this was what I wanted. I couldn't be happier with my choice. This uke is beautiful to look at, comfortable to play, and sounds sweet. I am always complimented at my uke club about the interestng inlays or the slotted headstock. It is also one that many of the other players ask if they can try. Everyone loves it. This uke is also a great traveller. I live in PA, and it has gone with me for long weekends in the mountains, weeks at the Outer Banks of North Carolina and to the beaches of St John USVI. It has been to all different environments and always stays in tune. If you are looking for an eyecatching solid wood uke that sounds great, you would be hard pressed to find a better one in this price range. Kala outdid themselves with this one.

It took 6 weeks from I ordered my Kala Akascia Tenor ukulele till the package reach my house in Norway. I was very excited and scared that it was lost. So I was very glad when it arrived. At first I was a little bit disapointed. For me the strings where to high over the fretboard and the setup was not very good for me. I usually play on a Martin soprano, 50 years old, and not many ukes I have played can mach that one. But after I had used file and sandpaper, I vas very pleased. I am very glad i bought it and after setting it upp, it is very playable.

Last year I went to my town's local Kala dealer immediately when I found out they had this ukulele in. Perhaps they hadn't done a set up, I mean I was ready to fall in love with her on looks alone, yet she just seemed so kind of tight and quiet that I set her aside and started strumming the Lacewood model. Immediately the Lacewood just hands down had such a more articulated voice and projection, that the visual beauty of the Acacia just didn't matter any more. I came in for a month and kept trying both, yet I always spent the majority of my time with the Lacewood. I suspect that the Acacia top really opens up over time, and that the quieter ukes grow greater in volume over time too. However, I have a hard time imagining that this particular model by this maker at that price point can really get that Acacia to voice as lovely as a cedar or spruce soundboard. The Ukulele Site price is pretty good for this uke.

Although my ukulele still hasn't arrived, i've been able to try this model at several different music shops in London. I was immediately drawn to both the authentic look of this ukulele, the style of the head and neck and the tone this ukulele. I can't wait for mine to arrive, it'll be a great late birthday present at the start of the new year.
