All Solid Acacia from Kala!

This beautiful, all-solid Striped Acacia will turn heads and please ears. Decorative features include a slotted headstock with vintage styled gear tuners, custom abalone fret marker inlays, maple binding and vintage-style herringbone purfling. Acacia is also called Mimosa or Shower Tree; these tropical trees are cousins of the Hawaiian Koa Tree. They have gorgeous striped patterns of light and dark brown and have a deep colorful tone that match their beauty.

For the last decade this model has been one of our best selling models. The binding is now maple wood and the fretboard and bridge are walnut. They lightened the weight of this instrument and increased the resonance and the new SA-T is certainly one of the best options for a high quality, modestly priced solid wood tenor.

Take a listen to this sweet sound sample from Corey.

  1. Good uke, but not holding up to time 1 people found this helpful

This is a great sounding and looking ukulele, however mine is not holding up. I've had it about 4 years and the bridge is lifting, the saddle moves in the bridge slot and one of the tuner peg heads is loose and rattles. It still sounds good, but I imagine I only have a couple years before I need to put some serious money into it or buy something else. I have an similarly aged mahogany PONO that has had no issues. I also prefer the thicker neck and resulting weight distribution of the PONO.

It looks awesome, seriously not a single cosmetic flaw and the wood grain is just great. Loved the tone, definitely better at making softer music sound great compared to my last uke!

This ukulele sounds rich and full, and also has a great dynamic range. You can play from sweet and quiet tones to loud, barking sounds. It looks beautiful. The acacia wood is a combination of brown and dark-gold color that creates amazing looking patterns, The Grover tuners are very high quality and holds the tone very well. The intonation is spot on. Amazing instrument overall, especially for the price. And with the HMS's set-up. This ukulele truly feels like a high-end professional instrument.

i bought my Kala ASAC TE used in the UK. It's the same model but has the Shadow pickup and preamp factory fitted and costs around £80 more. Mine also came witha TGI ABS hard case. All for under £250 and the cases cost over £50 so very pleased with the price. A couple of members of my Uke club already had this model so I knew they were good. Mine is beautifully made and flawlessly finished. The only negative is that the strap button/jack socket is 1/4 inch off centre. The person who fitted it must have had his eyes closed! I also own 2 fairly new made in Mexico Martins a S1 and C1K. Both weigh considerably less than the Kala and are louder with more treble. However the Kala is mellow and sweet where the Martins are a little brash. I love my Martins and have nothing but praise for them even though they're not USA made. But of course neither is the Kala its Chinese. There is this idea that USA made ukes are the best. Well the Chinese have been making instruments for centuries so if you buy a Chinese uke at this price you can expect it to be just as well made as a USA uke costing much more Due to wage costs. My Kala is beautifully set up now and a pleasure to play. The slot head looks amazing with the way it's veneered and routed to show the different coloured woods. The tuners are Grovers. As good as any. My Martins have Grovers too. The neck is beautifully finished and the frets perfect as far as I can tell. No sharp edges or high spots. It plays in tune as far up the neck as I ever venture. Ok it's not loud but it is just so so sweetly voiced that you forgive that. Plus I can always plug mine in if I want loud! Try before you buy as with anything. I'm very pleased with mine.
