All Solid Acacia from Kala!

This beautiful, all-solid Striped Acacia will turn heads and please ears. Decorative features include a slotted headstock with vintage styled gear tuners, custom abalone fret marker inlays, maple binding and vintage-style herringbone purfling. Acacia is also called Mimosa or Shower Tree; these tropical trees are cousins of the Hawaiian Koa Tree. They have gorgeous striped patterns of light and dark brown and have a deep colorful tone that match their beauty.

For the last decade this model has been one of our best selling models. The binding is now maple wood and the fretboard and bridge are walnut. They lightened the weight of this instrument and increased the resonance and the new SA-T is certainly one of the best options for a high quality, modestly priced solid wood tenor.

Take a listen to this sweet sound sample from Corey.

I have played this same model ukulele without any setup and it is a great ukulele. However, with the addition of the setup from Hawaii Music Supply it is beyond great, I didn't want to say awesome because it is so over used, but really - it's awesome! I can't pass by it without picking it up and playing it. It's beautiful, it sounds amazing, and it is a joy to play. For those of you thinking about buying it elsewhere, I cannot tell you how much of a difference the setup makes. I highly recommend you buy it here; you will not be disappointed. And it really doesn't take long to get it once you order it.

I love this uke but I really did not like dull finish. I read some articles about buffing the finish to gloss. I used 3000 grit sandpaper and Scratch Out polish. Lightly sand the finish ( I left the neck alone) dull. I applied the Scratch Out with a the orbital polisher and polished to the gloss I wanted. I loved the final gloss finish! You can see the beautiful grain! I wouldn't do this to any ukulele's finish but it will work on this model. This uke sounds great and now looks awesome! One of my favorites!

  5. One of Kala's Best Models 0 people found this helpful

One of Kala's best ukuleles, and for good reason - it sounds, feels, looks - and even smells great! Ive had this model for over a year and a half now (my first uke) and did a LOT of research before deciding what to get. All the cheapies that I tried at my local music stores were very dissatisfying because the tone seemed off and they didn't sound "uke-ish" to me, if you know what I mean. I couldn't afford a Hawaiian-made solid koa uke, but I still wanted that sound and tone. I drove my family crazy as I quite literally spent all my free time for about six months researching ukes online, listening to samples and reading reviews. What I came away with was my best bets for the best sound in an affordable range were either the Kala Solid Lacewood or this one (I now have one of each, as well as a Kala Koa Cedartop Gloss). All three were set up by staff employed at Hawaii Music Supply and all three are wonderful! Added benefit - this uke's tone improves with age, like a fine wine! A year and a half into playing this one, and I swear it keeps sounding better and better!
