The AT has been a hit for the last decade, but this latest version looks and sounds better than ever! It now has an ebony bridge, fingerboard, and faceplate. The sound is warm and full with wonderful projection.

Acacia is part of the same family of trees as Hawaiian Koa, and it comes from a very similar species found throughout Asia. This instrument was built on one of the Indonesian Islands, with hands-on guidance and quality control from the Ko'olau Ukulele Company. The finest instrument makers construct these instruments to Ko'olau specs and design. This satin finish is very clean. The woods selected for this model are beautiful and instrument grade, as well as cut and dried properly.

A key feature, in all of the Pono tenors and baritones, is the dual-action adjustable truss rod. The truss rod stabilizes and adjusts the lengthwise forward curvature, also called relief, of the neck. It can be easily adjusted from inside the soundhole using the included allen wrench. Over time and with humidity changes this is a very useful option to have.

I very much enjoy this uke. I have the cutaway and though I do play up that high I must admit it was for ascetics as well. The sound is very warm and the set up is amazing. I have used several different kinds of strings but have yet to come up with a favourite. My only complaint is that I find it too soft when playing with others. When performing I am plugged in so it is not an issue. This is a great instrument and my 1st Pono. I own a Kamaka and Kelii as well and this was a great addition to my ukulele family. Being in Canada, I don't get a lot of opportunity to play these instruments before I buy, so the demo video's that the folk at Hawaiian Music Supply provide are essential!

Pono is now one of my favorite brands and if the price of the big 3 Ks is too much then Pono is by far the obvious choice. I cant get over how much better it is than the other ukuleles Ive played. BUY it

This is an incredible uke. Aaron sums it nicely in his review. It's woody but also bright at the same time, a perfect combination. It has deep resonant tones yet also nice bright highs. Pono construction quality is excellent. One big change I made was to replace the Mahana wound 3rd strings with Aquila plain. For me, it's much easier on my fingers and I find the tone much more resonant and brighter. I find I'm more creative when a uke is easier to play. It's just plain easier to strum! Lastly, HMS setup was right on the money, really well done.

I am a converted guitar player, and new to ukulele. This Pono tenor meets all the requirements. Beautiful to look at, amazing sound. I have been learning so much recently...playing classical and popular instrumental pieces that sound amazing on this instrument. Could not be happier. The sound projects beautifully, and the sustain with the fingerboard is great. So much fun. It is pretty much all I want to do these days. The Ukulele Site is so helpful with everything. Shipping, advice, answering questions. This is where I will buy my next uke...a concert size I hope.

  5. Nice, but a little disappointed 0 people found this helpful

After all of the glowing reviews about this uke, including the video, I was a little disappointed. I have been playing guitar for 15+ years and have only all solid wood guitars, so I wanted to get a solid wood uke. At the same time I ordered this Pono, I also ordered two <$100 soprano ukes for my kids. I was surprised that the cheap little mahogany laminate sopranos almost project better than this Pono. Perhaps it is because the acacia wood is so hard? Either way, I was expecting a fuller sound from the combination of the tenor size and solid wood. Also, the kerfing is slightly split right inside the sound hole and above the back brace -- not enough to affect the integrity of the instrument, but it is certainly something that should have been caught on a quality check. If I had had the luxury of visiting the store and trying out several ukes, I am not convinced that I would have ended up with this one.
