The Alchemist from Rebel Ukulele first came out as a limited run in 2015. It was a big hit but it's been years since we've seen one. Well this is the newest generation with an upgraded look, sound, and feel.

The top on this new custom has beautiful mango wood and spruce. The sides and back are padauk. It's a striking design with a gorgeous tone.

This ukulele is set up with a fluorocarbon low G but we can set it up high G for you if you prefer that.

This is a truly special ukulele designed by Rebel artist Yo and crafted by their head builder Chote. The design is both creative and practical and the construction is exquisite. Chote built custom furniture for many years before learning lutherie from Paul and Griz from KoAloha quite a few years back. This ukulele is unique and beautiful but what is most impressive is the tone. It has excellent projection and a big warm body of sound while still retaining clear focus and remarkable sustain. It's one of the best instruments to ever come through our store.

We asked Rebel owner Peng to give us some thoughts on the creation of this unique masterpiece and why they decided to call it the "Alchemist".

" 'Hybrid' was the unofficial name of this model when we started working on this project. We wanted to find the tone that is unique by eliminating the limitation of each individual tone wood. Being creative and exploring alternatives were our top priority. We've studied how the woods and bracing patterns affect the tones and always looked for the so-called "ideal tone". The process of making this ukulele was to achieve the unseeable things - the Rebel tone. We made a hypothesis, tested it, and proved it. We did it by trial and error again and again! Just like a chef looked for a new taste in each dish he made, he tasted the dish when it was fully cooked."

Peng continued, "This process reminded us of the fine line between a fairly tale and science - the dream and the reality. The thought that switches between these two domains was surprisingly intrigued. It was like a river flowing through. We wanted to be at the junction of the river that connects the old ages with the coming future. The picture of 'Alchemists' slowly appeared in our mind as they played a significant role in the development of early modern science - the dawn of the new era. While the rest of world were still in the dark, the alchemists slowly pushed the world forward. We honor them as they were the very first group of "rebels" the world has ever known. We stand on the shoulders of giants. We give credit to those who come before us. Those who had added to human knowledge, making it possible for us to make new discoveries. Hence, the official name of this model "Alchemists" is our hope to play a part of transition our generation to the future."

Our goal as a store is to carry the absolute best ukuleles in the world. We are proud to offer you this ukulele, not just because it's cool and different, but because of it's amazing resonance, effortless playability, and excellent value.

This includes the Rebel gig bag but we suggest the upgrade to an Oahu hard case for the best protection. The included Humistat humidifier can also be upgraded. Don't hesitate to add this amazing tenor to your collection. We guarantee you will love it!

1. This auction will close on Sunday, November, 26 2023 at 3:00 pm Hawaii time.

2. This is an English format “open bid” auction. This means the bids are public and can be seen by others. The bidding starts at $2,500. Any price shown above this is the current prevailing bid. You must bid higher by at least $25.00.

3. You must log in to your TheUkuleleSite account to bid. If you don’t have an account, simply create one. From "My Account" and under the "My Auction" tab you need to set your auction name and choose when you would like to be emailed. You can also cancel bids from there.

4. We’re including Going, Going, Gone to simulate a live auction. With this feature, any new highest bid received in the final one-hundred twenty [120] seconds will re-set a one-hundred twenty [120] second window for new bids to be received. If a higher bid comes in, the two minutes will re-set again. This cycle will continue until the prevailing bid survives without being overbid within the one-hundred twenty [120] second window.

5. When the auction ends, the highest bid received at or above the reserve price will be the winner. We must receive your bid for it to count.

6. The highest bid will be invoiced for the full value of the bid and have 72 hours from the invoice date to pay for their purchase in full. If the purchase price is not remitted by the deadline, Hawaii Music Supply may choose to offer the next highest bidder the opportunity to buy it at their final bid price.

7. Hawaii Music Supply reserves the right in its sole discretion to invalidate any bids that it determines have been made for the purpose of collusion or undermining the integrity of the auction. In such an event, Hawaii Music Supply may re-start or cancel the auction or choose to sell to any valid bidders. By entering this auction, all bidders agree that their bids are made with the intention to purchase the instrument featured in the auction at the price of their highest final bid. All bidders agree to avoid any coordination or collusion with other bidders.

Good luck and aloha!

Options

CASE
When you buy this ukulele you get a Rebel gig bag. It will fit wonderfully in our Oahu hardshell case if you want hardshell protection.

Humidifier (Options at the "Humidifier Options" above)

Another option is to add a ukulele humidifier. This is required if you live in a low humidity area or if you use indoor heating/cooling, especially for areas with winter seasons or hot summers. If you are heating the air in your house, the air will become extremely dry.

Regardless of the outside humidity levels, the indoor humidity levels will drop dramatically once the air is heated. The same is true for air conditioning, usually not as drastic of a humidity drop as a heater, but it will remove a significant amount of moisture from the air as well. In either case, it is always a good idea to supplement with a humidifier that you store in the case with the instrument while not in use. This is usually a requirement by Ukulele manufacturers in order to keep the instrument covered under warranty.

In order to humidify the instrument, you will need a case for the humidifier to work properly and you will need to maintain the humidifier by refilling it as needed.

Other Options (Many found in the essential accessories above)
Another option is to switch your string set or change from low G tuning to high G tuning or vice-versa. Just add the strings you want and choose the restring option at the string listing.

Setup Options

Current Turnaround Time: Amount of time it takes before shipment-

Full Setup: 10-14 Business Days

Basic Quality Control: 2-3 Days

BASIC QUALITY CONTROL covers inspecting the instrument for any major defects that would have been missed by the factory and any faults in construction that could potentially damage or limit the functionality of the instrument over time. Any defective instruments are rejected and replaced.  We make sure that each Ukulele meets the basic standard for a brand new instrument and will be ready to play once you receive it. A final cleanup is also included after inspection before packing and shipment.

Full Setup - FREE for all Ukuleles $399 and over / $20.00 for Ukuleles from $300-399 / $30.00 for Ukuleles Under $300

Includes:

-Overall QC evaluation: To find defects in construction as well as to get an overall view of the instrument and note the areas that need extra attention and adjustment during the setup.

-Saddle Adjustment: The height of the saddle is lowered to reduce the distance between the strings and the fretboard, making it easier to play than the factory setup, especially higher up the fretboard.

-Nut Slot Adjustment: The depth, width, and angle of the nut slots are adjusted to create a more comfortable playing experience especially on the lower frets.

-Fret Dressing: After adjusting the nut and saddle heights, high spots in the fretboard or uneven frets will potentially cause fret buzz, dead spots, or other unwanted problems. The frets are filed to create a more consistent level across the fretboard. We then crown the frets to return their rounded curvature back to the top of each fret creating a clear contact point for each string. We then smooth and polish the frets and condition the fingerboard to bring them back to new condition.

-Final Cleanup: We always do a final overall cleanup of the instrument to make sure it is in new condition and ready to play before it is prepared for shipment.

Rush Setup & Delivery - Additional $50.00
The RUSH SETUP AND DELIVERY service is for customers who would still like to receive everything included in the full setup but on a shorter time frame. One of our setup technicians will work overtime outside of normal business hours to complete the setup within 2-3 days of the order being placed and immediately hand it over to the shipping department for packing and shipment. The $50.00 rush charge is in addition to the cost of the full setup.

Additional services (see individual product listings to add these services to your order)
Re-stringing: We will replace the factory installed stock string set with a new set of your choosing. Select the “replace stock strings” option when adding your desired string set to the shopping cart.
